Want to give your AR-15 a thousand rounds of 5.56×45 NATO ammunition? Say no more. This ammo was made for Federal at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, and it evinces the same exact quality as the cartridges you would get for free if you just sign a little paperwork at your local U.S. Army recruiting office.
M193 is the designation for the basic 5.56 ammo issued for field use with the M16A1 rifle. Federal puts an X in front of it when the ammo is going to the civilian market and not the U.S. Armed Forces. As such this round has a 55 grain FMJ bullet loaded to a standard muzzle velocity of 3,240 fps. This is a perfect bullet for target practice – completely steel-free, for compliance with any range’s policy on magnetic ammunition – and also befitting of a home defense situation. That FMJ’s going to splinter apart if it hits soft tissue at about two-thirds its muzzle velocity.
Military-grade 5.56 ammunition’s cases are brand new, made of brass and reloadable several times. You will notice that their shoulders are discolored, which is the natural and strictly cosmetic product of the heat treatment which made them stronger. This Boxer-primed ammo is bulk-packaged in a giant 1,000 round box.
